Welcome girlies and ghoulies and allies of the haunted community.
It’s October? I think? Idk it was 80 degrees here in Minneapolis the other day so I cannot confirm that with confidence. But the leaves are indeed changing and the air from my bedroom window is finally regulating the temperature and I watched Practical Magic this week so all signs point to October.
And in our culture October marks the beginning of Cuffing Season. The dykes are thrifting new flannels. The Brat summer gays are putting the key down and picking the comforter up. The Hey Mamas are thirsting extra hard (I know, who thought possible). The community is united in shacking up for the winter. And even though I have rarely participated in this tradition, I do always turn inward and get sentimental and anxious about the change of seasons. I am a summer girlie through and through but as I settle into my mature/elderly lifestyle I’ve grown to reeeeally look forward to fall. It’s 90% because I pride myself on having an immaculate ‘light jacket’ collection but…whatever it’s the small things that keep us chuggin along.
This late-summer and fall I’ve also been attending more queer country night dances at the Eagles34 here in minneapolis. It’s my favorite activity. I cry at least once every time I go (and I know I’m not alone in this). Watching the old gay cowboys hold each other and throw one another across the room is euphoric. And I’m constantly taking note of the songs that I would never find myself listening to but become obsessed with because I get to watch my BABE of a girlfriend dance a line dance perfectly to them. For example. It makes me sappy and I am not shy to admit it!
So with all of that in mind this group of songs leans heavily into slowing down and posting up with lovers and friends. This is by no means a coupling-up list. Cozy up with your cowboys and comrades. Cozy up with your diabetic cat and your other diabetic cat. Just go ahead and hunker down somewhere in the presence of others. The songs are a lil more sentimental than sexy but the vibes are lovely. And Miguel is on the list so you know it’s at least a little bit steamy. I hope you enjoy.
Oh also! In the next week or so I will be sharing a 😈Halloween🦇 list that is dark wave / spooky / dance / sexy. So you will have that to look forward to.

This newer single from Haley Heynderickx makes me cry. What’s the German word for “I’m having trouble explaining the emotions but wow the world is so tragic and beautiful and wow we’re all here at the same time, isn’t that special?” Idk it’s great. She’ll be coming to the Twin Cities in November so if you’re in the area, plz join me.
Charli released the entire remix album for Brat and damn. She is already the queen of a remix and she solidified that title with this. A lot of the songs are being added to my ‘no, but the remix is actually better’ playlist which you can listen to here. Specifically, her remix of Apple with the Japanese House will be on repeat for me for years to come.
Camp Cope’s album ‘Running with the Hurricane’ is in my personal cannon of Best Albums of All Time and Space. And the fact that I never got to see them live will haunt me until my death (or until they regroup for a reunion?). The beauty of that album is the way in which they’ve articulated what it feels like to live as a breathing, conscious person in the 2020s. So because this list of songs nods to the unfortunate truth of living and loving while in collapse, their song Screaming Planet had to be included on the list. If you’re unfamiliar with Camp Cope check out their final show at Sydney Opera house, or turn off the lights lay on the floor and put on Running with the Hurricane. Camp Cope foreverrrr
Mother Stevie Nicks wrote ‘If You Ever did Believe’ in the 1970s and it was Sheryl Crow who encouraged her to record her own version. Sheryl jumped on the track as a backup vocalist and it made its way onto the Practical Magic soundtrack in 1998. The two went on to form a friendship and recorded and performed plenty together. Including this rendition of Strong Enough which is scientifically proven turn you gay! Women helping women folks!
Alright that’s all for now! I love you <3
